His unique experiences in engineering and business include designing medical devices and systems for radiofrequency vessel sealing, internal stapling, catheters, imaging and patent strategy. An analog and power devotee as well as a bass player, David combines his love of music with professional audio electronics and has launched numerous innovative products in the music business. He is also a prolific inventor with over 100 issued U.S. patents. His experience in companies big and small, plus owning small businesses bring perspective on better ways to solve problems.

Jasmine was drawn to human factors by a mixed love of medicine, psychology and research. With a masters degree in Industrial and Human Factors Engineering from Wright State University, Jasmine completed a co-op at Ethicon Endo-Surgery and worked in hospitals such as Ohio Health Hospitals and the University of Toledo Medical Center prior to joining Kaleidoscope. She believes in the importance of being flexible, innovative and aware of standards/guidelines. Outside of the office, Jasmine enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Ben savors the collaboration that biomedical engineering offers as every project brings together physicians, patients, designers and engineers to solve complex problems. Ben’s background notably includes precision injection systems for subretinal drug delivery, atraumatic manipulators for microvascular surgery, and cryogenic surgical probes for cardiac ablation. He strives to implement patient-centric design – that is, bedside-to-bench-to-bedside – in all of his work. In his spare time, Ben enjoys Cincinnati’s breweries with friends, refines his photography skills via travel, serves on the Board of Directors for Design Impact, and hammers on steel as a hobbyist blacksmith.

When asked in the first grade what he wanted to be when he grew up, Nikko answered, “An inventor that makes cool new things.” While Nikko has designed everything from houses to bike helmets, during his work with Ethicon he found a passion in applying his creativity to help people in medical technology and surgical innovation. At work, he enjoys walking a mile in someone else’s shoes through the user centered design process and applying his creativity in a way that improves quality of life.

Driven by an innate desire to tackle complex problems, Stephen remembers wanting to be an engineer all of his life. He saw biomedical engineering as the best way to have an impact on people’s lives. His degree in biomedical engineering from Purdue University and his time at K2M and Hollister have provided him with a passion for the spine and surgical instruments. He believes in designing products that make it simpler, faster and more efficient for healthcare providers to effectively treat patients. His hobbies include playing basketball, hiking and running Spartan Races.

Prior to 3M, she worked for the startup companies of CardioEnergetics, which focuses on devices to treat congestive heart failure, and Team Wendy, which develops helmets. Outside of work, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids.

Karl brings over 18 years of industrial design experience including six years at Stanley Black & Decker and nine years at an agency in Connecticut developing housewares, toys, sports and fashion products for companies such as Timex, Nike, Waring, Holmes, Burton, Pitney Bowes, Sealed Air, Leap Frog and Graco. When not at work, he serves as an adjunct professor teaching industrial design courses within the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP) and also serving as a guest critic for the DAAPworks graduating class projects. His experiences have led to over 30 utility and design patents.

Mark is a consummate inventor who strongly believes that the underpinnings of great design start long before the solution is realized with a disciplined approach to developing a great problem statement. A 30-year career in design engineering has taught him that the team is always better than the individual, and one of his great pleasures is in helping the people around him prosper. Having seen delighted customers in the past inspires Mark to work closely with customers to over-deliver every time.

Matt’s core design philosophy? “Know the product and know the end user.” Prior to joining Kaleidoscope Innovation, he spent 15+ years tending to brands such as P&G, Adidas, Kellogg’s, FC Cincinnati, Bayer, Dewey’s Pizza and Dragonfly. Matt believes Kaleidoscope’s strength lies in being a talented group of individuals from multiple disciplines who complement and strengthen each other’s ability to innovate. Outside of work, Matt enjoys attending concerts and sporting events, and coaching his kids in their activities.
Director of Insights & Human Factors
Valerie found research was a perfect way to uncover problems, unravel pain points and find elegant solutions to create satisfying designs. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope, Valerie founded and developed an HF Engineering group at Amgen. She successfully guided the Human Factors process and regulatory filings for combination products such as Enbrel®, Repatha® and Aimovig® SureClick® autoinjectors and prefilled syringe devices. Valerie’s insight also promoted the success of the Enbrel® Mini™ with AutoTouch™ reusable autoinjector, as well as wearable devices, such as the Repatha® Pushtronix®, and the Neulasta® Onpro® devices. At Abbott, she was instrumental in developing the Merlin.net™ Patient Care Network. Outside of work, Valerie enjoys knitting and is a self-described yarn addict.

Andreya has always been fascinated by language and the written word, which drove her to earn a degree in Journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. She additionally earned a degree in Psychology, which kindled her interest in the healthcare industry. Her experience in marketing, communications, writing and editing includes work with a prominent international human rights organization and a Cincinnati-based book publishing company. Andreya’s appetite for knowledge and passion for purposeful creation makes her excited to cover design and medical device advancement news for Kaleidoscope Innovation.

Mike thrives at the juncture of medical technology and clinical understanding. From his training as a veterinary surgeon through more than 20 years with Johnson& Johnson, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Ethicon and Cordis, he has developed innovative solutions to complex customer problems. His deep corporate and clinical experiences allow him to guide clients through medical device design, strategic planning, innovation processes, concept development and more. He is named inventor on over 30 issued or pending U.S. Patents and as the author or co-author on over 90 published papers, abstracts or book chapters. Away from work, he likes to spend time with family and play golf.

Dawn was drawn to product development and project management by her passion for watching an idea transform into a product or service that users—and clients—love. With more than ten years’ experience managing market research projects in the healthcare industry for companies such as Ethicon Endo-Surgery, DePuy, Codman and St. Jude, Dawn finds her work is fueled by a desire to go above and beyond expectations. When not at work, Dawn enjoys traveling with her husband and son.

Al is passionate about revolutionizing the tools that serve society and enjoys working at a company that supports multiple industries on the leading edge of innovation. Prior to joining Kaleidoscope Innovation, he served as design team lead, project manager and department manager at companies such as Rockwell Collins, Northrup Grumman, Harris Corporation and Cincinnati Sub-Zero. He has earned degrees in Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Outside of the office, Al enjoys spending time with his family and working on their farm.

Joe has always been passionate about working with others and discovering what drives them. Before working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, Joe’s experience at Aerotek involved working directly with clients and delivering recruiting services to industries such as Med Device, Material Handling and Automotive. Joe was drawn to Kaleidoscope Innovation’s creative and collaborative atmosphere, and the fact that they truly care about their team members, clients and end users. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and attending sporting events around the city.

From a very young age, Michal has always strived to help people. This led him to the medical field, but rather than spending 10+ years in schooling he chose to fast-track and pursue a career in Biomedical Engineering instead. Almost three years sustaining and developing hyper/hypothermia systems cemented his love for medical device design and has allowed him to achieve his goal of leading an impactful life. Beyond the workplace, Michal enjoys cooking; traveling; playing soccer, tennis and piano; and composing his own music.

As a designer, Jake believes that solutions should be strikingly beautiful as well as useful and practical. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, he completed co-ops at Ethicon, Huge Design and Industry PDX, working for clients such as: Intel, Microsoft, HP, GE, Targus, Tencent, Banfield, Nike and many more. Jake excels at 3D modeling, and focuses on the details to ensure that the best possible design is achieved. A Cincy native, Jake is either out in the local community or hiking the local trails.
HR Business Partner
Susie believes that people are the strong foundation of any company, and she enjoys being able to work with and through people to help them achieve a goal. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, she had the opportunity to spend 2.5 years at Georgia-Pacific in a variety of plants, working with all sorts of employees – from the VP of Manufacturing to an entry-level production employee. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring all Cincinnati has to offer.
Software Development Manager
Jason enjoys developing software and interactive products from the ground up, and seeing the positive impact his work can have on people’s everyday lives. Prior to joining Kaleidoscope, Jason worked at The Walt Disney Company within their Disney Interactive division, first managing production of online games for Disney.com, and later producing mobile games for iOS and Android. His previous experience also includes managing production on interactive toys at Jakks Pacific, Inc. Outside the office, you can find Jason spending time with his family, or outdoors fishing or playing golf.

Kory is driven to project management by his passion for surpassing clients’ and end users’ expectations – in both the finished product and their overall experience through the project lifecycle. Kory has spent the last six years working on medical device products for the EMS division, including leading the verification & validation testing at Ferno and project management of new product development projects. In his free time, Kory enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his lovely wife and two adorable children.

Mark was drawn to visualization by a love of art, animation and visual phenomena. His work is energized by the opportunity to work with a team, to challenge, to create and the chance to delight. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, Mark worked on visual effects, videos and animations for commercials, music videos and network programming. His clients included Shuffle Inc, WB Network, NBC, Windmill Lane, PPS Group, Lightborne, Mills James Productions both in Cincinnati and Los Angeles. At Kaleidoscope Innovation, he is impressed by the atmosphere of mutual support.
Visualization Specialist
Marina was drawn to 3D animation and computer graphics by a love of art and drawing discovered at the early age of three. As a specialist in creating real-time 3D environments and the development of interactive software products, Marina is energized by a love of solving problems and over-delivering for client partners. Her Masters in Animation and Spatial Graphics from Purdue University at Indianapolis, makes it no surprise that she is proficient in a full spectrum of tools from Photoshop to Unity. However, it is surprising to many to learn that English is not her first language, but Russian.

Early in life, Scott discovered industrial design as a way to transform his interest in art into a living. After a multi-year career at Navistar, contributing to products such as the DuraStar and 9900i, Scott translated his engineering-intense experience into a focus on medical projects. Working with partners such as Abbott, Ethicon, Smith & Nephew and Janssen, Scott believes that new product development is exciting work. As such, it is his mission, as senior project manager, to make the experience open and collaborative for clients and the team.
Retail Visualization & Virtual Program Team Leader
As an artist and illustrator, who embraced digital media starting in the 80s, Dan is constantly searching for the best way to tell a story for our partners. With previous experience in real-time visualization for broadcast TV— at the PGA TOUR—Dan is a leader in bringing the quality and time-to-market of a broadcast model to retail visualization. A pro himself at 3D visualization, animation, big data and product development, Dan believes the best solutions come from having a clear understanding of our partners’ needs.
Design Engineer
Kyle has always been fascinated by the way things work and how they are assembled, which led him to study biomedical engineering. Eager to learn more in the field of electromechanical design, Kyle began to spend his free time exploring work with Arduino and Raspberry Pi. These skills translated to project contributions, allowing him to conceptualize and develop user interactive control units for medical applications. His ongoing interest in both learning new skills and building on his existing skills broadens his ability to provide multi-disciplinary support to the team. Outside of work, Kyle enjoys exercising and producing music.

Growing up, John would tinker with everything he could get his hands on. With more than 30 years of experience in product design, he has learned to design with a manufacturer’s mindset, which makes his solutions cost-effective. He is not only adept in engineering software, such as Solidworks, NX, and Pro-E, but also highly skilled at visual communications for technical documentation. A classic Do-It-Yourselfer, John helped build the house he lives in and is his family’s plumber, electrician and framer.

Mike has more than 35 years of experience in Mechanical Design in the Aerospace and Medical Device industries. Prior to joining Kaleidoscope Innovation, Mike worked for Johnson & Johnson’s Cordis and Ethicon divisions, leading project teams developing a variety of surgical devices. He is named inventor on 32 patents and is a Registered Professional Engineer. Mike earned a BSME from the Rose-Hulman Institute, and an MSME from the University of Missouri.
Senior Design Engineer
Dustin’s philosophy on design and innovation is that it’s never perfect the first time – that innovation is about trying something, realizing it doesn’t work, and then improving. A University of Cincinnati graduate trained in biomedical engineering, Dustin worked for Cincinnati Sub-Zero for four years before joining the Kaleidoscope Innovation team. Knowing that his work truly helps people is what makes him passionate about being an engineer in the medical field. Outside of work, he enjoys the great outdoors, whether that involves playing a round of golf or climbing up a mountain.
Design Engineer
Stephanie is a recent graduate from Purdue University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. She is passionate about the medical device field because it is full of interesting design challenges and ultimately allows her to develop products to improve someone’s quality of life. Prior to working for Kaleidoscope Innovation, Stephanie was an R&D Co-op with Biomet Orthopedics, where she worked on hip implants and surgical instruments. In addition, she completed an R&D internship with Medtronic Inc., where she worked on peripheral vascular devices. Her hobbies include running, cycling, rock climbing and reading.

Frank is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP). As a designer, he believes in the power of multidisciplinary teams with diverse backgrounds that bring fresh ideas to the table. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, he completed co-ops at Mitek Sports Medicine, Ethicon and Innomark Communications. Frank is proficient in sketching concepts, making prototypes and communicating ideas to help make innovation a reality. Although born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, Frank is a die-hard Bearcat.

While Daniel has always had a passion for creative design, his desire to develop inventive solutions to problems is what convinced him to abandon his pursuit of an art degree and instead obtain a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky. A licensed professional engineer, Daniel has worked as a hardware design engineer for Lexmark International and later as a designer and team leader of research & development at LSI Industries. Outside of work, he enjoys playing guitar and watching UK basketball.

Olivia enjoys solving challenging problems and working on projects that positively affect the well-being of others. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, she worked for Midmark Corporation in Sustaining Engineering, New Product Development and Operations. Olivia earned her B.S.E. in biomedical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. She feels Kaleidoscope’s strength draws from cross-functional disciplines working together to come up with unique ideas and solutions. Outside of work Olivia enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in their BMT unit.

Matt has always enjoyed working with people to discover their passion and drive. Throughout his career, Matt has delivered client consultation and recruiting services to companies such as Intelligrated, Rockwell Automation and Apex Industrial Technologies. Matt brings a process-oriented yet creative approach to Kaleidoscope Innovation with a hunger to help solve challenges through innovative solutions. When he has free time, Matt enjoys traveling, discovering new experiences and anything sports-related.
Human Factors Engineer
Pragadeesh’s passion for contributing to projects that impact life in a positive way led him to work in the field of human factors and ergonomics research. Pragadeesh specializes in anthropometric and ergonomic evaluations and obtained his Masters in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors from Penn State University. His drive comes from considering the safety of patients and enriching people’s lives, and he lives by the philosophy that design should be simple and easy to use. Outside of work, Pragadeesh enjoys singing and playing the guitar.

Visualization Designer
Sebastian has gained 5+ years of experience as a digital artist in the VFX (Visual Effects), Medical and Product Design fields. Since graduating with a B.S. in Computer Animation with an emphasis in Hard Surface Modeling, Sebastian has learned to become more multifaceted, helping in many areas of the visualization pipeline. What he enjoys most about his career is the ability to meet and work with like-minded individuals – people who like to push the boundaries in their work. Whether that work is more technical or artistic, he has come to appreciate both the same.

Katie was drawn to biomedical engineering because she wanted to impact people’s lives and be a part of something bigger than herself. She received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Ohio State University and a B.S.E. and M.E. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Katie’s experience prior to joining Kaleidoscope Innovation includes manufacturing at L’Oreal and quality engineering and post-market surveillance at AtriCure. Outside of work, Katie enjoys exploring Cincinnati with friends.

After a 20+ year career in Aerospace, Bob changed gears to pursue sculpture and returned to school for a design degree with a major in human factors. Bob has been the ID/HF lead on projects for Smith & Nephew, Ethicon, Proctor and Gamble, Motorola, Evenflo and Meridian Bioscience. Across this diverse range of clients, Bob has brought the same rich toolbox of observational research, sketching, CAD, breadboard modelling and user testing to find the most usable solution for the client. Outside of work, Bob enjoys the outdoors and is an accomplished multi-sport athlete.

Cory is passionate about meeting and working with new people and sharing an interest in finding them the best possible career. He is energized by listening to an individual talk about their career goals and aspirations. Cory was drawn to Kaleidoscope Innovation because they stand behind their service and support for internal employees and business partners. Prior to joining Kaleidoscope Innovation, Cory worked at Aerotek recruiting for general labor and aviation skillsets. In his free time Cory likes to golf, travel and spend time with his family.

Matt has always loved interacting with clients to find solutions for their challenges. He was drawn to business development at Kaleidoscope Innovation because of the great potential he saw. After graduating from the Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, he worked with two startups, a marketing consultancy, a financial services company and the non-profit 3CDC. He believes that listening is the most important part of sales. In his free time, Matt enjoys movies, trying new foods, traveling and the great outdoors.

With an unwavering focus on the big picture, Tony continually seeks opportunities to grow as a professional and move beyond incremental improvements in devices, processes and procedures to deliver solutions that will transform life. While previously working at Ethicon as Senior Industrial Designer, he simultaneously led several projects from front-end through production. At Kaleidoscope Innovation, Tony has utilized his creative and leadership abilities in both industrial design positions and project management roles.
Quality Assurance Manager
Rachael has always enjoyed knowing how things work and making them even better. So a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati was a natural fit. Her co-op experience included managing research in biomechanics and developing processes for electrochemical micromachining at the Human Evolutionary Locomotion and Micro Manufacturing Labs at UC. Her published works include “Pulse Electrochemical Micromachining of Tungsten Carbide.” At Kaleidoscope Innovation, she has worked on projects for clients from Janssen to Microsoft. In her personal time, Rachael is training for the Adirondack Canoe Classic, a 90-mile rowing/paddling race.

Since getting his first car at 15 years old, Jerry has been obsessed with anything in the automotive world. This led him to a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University, and almost 8 years’ experience developing infotainment parts for Honda R&D Americas. During this time, Jerry developed a passion for designing products that work, ensuring their long-term durability, and ultimately making them easy to use for the customer. Outside of work, Jerry is an avid participant in Sports Car Club of America Solo II racing, tennis, and golf and is his family mechanic.
Hospitality & Office Coordinator
An extremely creative person who thrives on surrounding herself with other creative individuals, Madeline was drawn to Kaleidoscope’s highly innovative and professional environment. Prior to working at Kaleidoscope Innovation, Madeline worked as an Executive Assistant with Ernst & Young, and as a Customer Service Agent with Delta Airlines. She earned her BA in Organizational Leadership from NKU. In her spare time, Madeline sings in a choir and is a self-proclaimed nerd who enjoys studying Myers Briggs personalities.
Design Engineer
An innovation enthusiast with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Pulkit is motivated by projects revolving around improving people’s lives. He finds that working in the medical device industry aligns well with his core philosophy, as the end product makes another person’s life better. Apart from engineering, Pulkit additionally has an educational background in product design and intellectual property rights. Previously, Pulkit worked at a law firm in New Delhi, providing technology-focused legal support to clients around the globe. In his free time, Pulkit enjoys photography, directing short movies and meditating.
